What a time to be alive in New York City! Of all of the places to meet friends, gather and celebrate the privilege of being alive in this city, Jamie Burke chose Waterbury Wine & Spirits to showcase the release of her new photo zine titled, “Effects of Togetherness.” She asked us to curate a wine tasting selection for the evening, hung a handful of large format photographs on the wall, plugged in a DJ to chaperone the hang and invited her community out to celebrate the occasion of putting art into the world. They certainly responded and carried the evening in a revelatory spirit, showcasing Jamie’s vision and intended statement, the Effects of Togetherness are real and worth documenting.
The Artist’s Statement: "Effects of Togetherness shares a collection of images that capture the contrasting necessities of finding our individuality and landmarking our time through experiencing together. There comes a time in one’s life where solitary exploration and discovering the inner workings of ourselves feels critical in the ability to control our own destinies. Yet, in the midst of this self-discovery, there’s an undeniable pull towards human connection. It’s in the company of others that we find the true essence of growth, for as much as we strive to carve our own paths, we are undeniably shaped by the relationships we cultivate along the way.
Told through 36 photos, Effects of Togetherness documents this universal experience through my lens.”
